A storefront staff can maintain

Rebuilding a Shopify storefront around the people who maintain its departments, promotions and everyday content.

My part

Theme development, content migration, editing controls and staff documentation.

Start with the work behind the pages

A storefront has to support more than a customer browsing products. Staff also need to change department navigation, prepare promotions and keep information current. Those jobs shaped my rebuild of an existing Shopify theme.

I worked from the existing store and its content, identifying where routine updates depended on pasted HTML, special templates or repeated manual changes. The replacement uses Shopify’s Dawn theme as a base, with sections and controls built around those editing tasks.

Give routine changes a clear home

I moved department navigation into editable cards and menus, and built a promotion layout with departments and nested offers. Staff can rearrange a department with its offers together, then check how the page reads on desktop and mobile.

I also separated current events and contests from their archives. Older posts can remain useful without presenting a closed promotion as something customers can still enter. The aim was to make the editing structure match the content staff actually maintain.

Keep presentation connected to the right source

Product information, pricing and stock already came from the retailer’s business systems. I kept that ownership intact while building the storefront presentation around it.

A seasonal notice describes typical availability; it does not establish current stock. Shipping information explains the options; checkout configuration enforces them. The theme and staff guidance make those distinctions explicit so a wording change is not mistaken for an operational change.

Prepare the transition and the people using it

The migration included existing pages, collection layouts and older links, alongside a staff guide explaining where to make each kind of change. I documented how shared templates work, because editing one template can affect several pages or departments.

This work produced a prepared replacement theme and documented editing workflows. Publication and the remaining launch checks are separate steps. The case shows the range involved in a storefront rebuild: interface development, content organisation, business-system boundaries and practical staff support.
